SELF-HEALING COMMUNITIES

The Self-Healing Communities Project in Crow Wing County was launched in late summer 2018, and our initial focus is in the neighborhoods around Garfield & Lowell Elementary schools. We need EVERYONE in our community to come together to work towards safer, healthier neighborhoods!

The Self-Healing Communities Model is designed to improve health and social outcomes for people by reducing and ultimately preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Like others around the country who have already begun this work, we aspire to “engage the public, inspire innovation, support peer helping, ease the daily stress burden of parents and promote change in all of the systems that serve them so that together communities can better protect and nurture the next generation” (RWJF, 2016).

HOW DO I JOIN THE SELF-HEALING COMMUNITY?

For the first phase of this project, we are focusing our efforts on connections with the residents of NE Brainerd, and we also need individuals from our entire community to work together to make this a success!

For 2019-2020, our project is working in the following areas:

  • NE Neighbors

  • Garfield & Lowell Parents Education Series

  • Monthly ACEs 101 Session

  • Monthly Resiliency 201 Session

  • Foster, Adoptive & Respite Parents’ Learning & Support Community

  • ACEs & Resiliency in Your Workplace

  • ACEs & Resiliency House Event & Discussion

  • Inmates & ACEs

  • Crosby Community: Coming Soon!
