Crisis
Nursery Services is free, short-term crisis childcare
for children
0-12 in Crow Wing County and the surrounding areas.
In 2010, we assisted in arranging and providing
220 households (709 people) with Crisis Nursery care.
The goal of the Crisis Nursery is to provide a safe
place for children during a family crisis.
Accessing Crisis Nursery
Weekdays, 8:30am-4:30pm: call the
Bridges of Hope office at 218.825.7682 or toll-free at
888.750.7682.
After-hours, weekends and holidays:
call our volunteer line at 218.330.2106. The phone is
answered between 6:00am-8:30am and 4:30pm-10:00pm
Mon-Fri and between 6:00am-10:00pm weekends and holidays.
On weekdays, the after-hours phone is primarily utilized
for emergencies (e.g., a medical emergency). When your
childcare need is not immediate, you may be directed to
call the Bridges of Hope office during regular business
hours.
Only parents and legal guardians can give permission
for their children to be placed in the Crisis Nursery.
Eligiblity
Crisis Nursery childcare can be from a very brief period
(just a few hours) to an extended period of time (up to
48 hours). It is a voluntary program. Families are
eligible to utilize Crisis Nursery for up to 30 days in
a year (12 month period). Crisis Nursery is not a
guaranteed service; it is based on whether your situation
fits the criteria for Crisis Nursery and on whether
there is a Crisis Nursery provider available to care for
your children. The childcare is provided by Crow Wing
County-licensed daycare and foster care providers who
have been specially trained in the Crisis Nursery
program.
Crisis Nursery is not a replacement for daycare;
instead, it is a short-term solution to a gap in your
regular childcare (e.g., your daycare provider is sick,
and you have no back-up available). Crisis Nursery can
also be used for a parent who is overwhelmed and needs a
break; however, it is quite different from the
Respite program here in Crow Wing
County. (For more details on Respite, click
here.)
